Eulalia “Lalie” Madriguera passed away peacefully on Dec. 1, 2024, with loving family by her side.

Lalie was born on June 15, 1941, in Port Clinton, Ohio, to the late Enric Madriguera and Patricia Gilmore. She resided in Connecticut and New York, and spent the last six years in Decorah, Iowa.

A beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and a dear friend to many, she was compassionate, caring and filled with light. Her sense of humor and infectious laugh uplifted all who knew her.

Lalie was an independent producer, director and writer for Connecticut Public Television. Her long-form documentaries were broadcast on PBS television stations throughout the U.S. and Canada, including “Vampires of New England” and “Phobias … Overcoming the Fear,” for which she won an Emmy.

She was an accomplished singer/songwriter and creator of live music programs celebrating the music of the “Great American Songbook.” During her career, she performed hundreds of shows throughout the Tri-State area and continued her passion for entertaining while residing in Decorah. Her album, “LalieByes,” has soothed the souls of young and old alike.

An enthusiastic environmentalist, Lalie wrote and sang “Mother’s Song” with hopes of healing for the planet.

Lalie traveled to England to complete her certification as a Bach flower practitioner and journeyed to Peru to further her studies in healing. She was a strong proponent of homeopathy and loved teaching others how to heal themselves.

She loved music, art, theater and politics, and was a lifelong learner. Lalie was a member of the Decorah UU community, served as a board member at the Decorah Community Food Pantry and volunteered with Northeast Iowa RSVP Senior Corps.

She was a gracious spirit, generous with her time and care for family, friends and acquaintances. She left this world a better place than she found it. As Lalie embarks on her next chapter, she leaves behind a legacy of love, healing and resilience that will be embraced by all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed.

Lalie is survived by her children: Nick (Sheryl) of Crestview, Fla.; Michael (Michelle) of Decorah, Iowa; Debbie (Joe) of North Haledon, N.J.; Linda (Steven) of Westport, and Maryanne (Jose) of San Diego, Calif. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Nicholas, Anthony, Bianca, Sam, Lindsey, Joseph, Gavin, Ryan, Owen, Christian and Amber; great-grandchildren: Gianna, Vincent, Titus, Achilles, Iris, Chloe, Levi, Sienna and Ethan, and nieces Christina and Julie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Enric Madriguera and Patricia Gilmore; sister Maria Madriguera; brother Enric Madriguera, and granddaughter Samantha.

A celebration of life to honor Lalie will be held at Greens Farms Church, 71 Hillandale Road, on Saturday, June 7, from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lalie’s honor to the Gillespie Center Food Pantry, 45 Jesup Road, or the PBS Foundation.

Lalie sings with the angels now, and we are sure she is a most welcomed addition to the choir.
