WESTPORT — The ninth annual “Optimism Walk,” sponsored by the Connecticut chapter of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, will step off Oct. 2 at Sherwood Island State Park.

The event is designed to raise both funds and awareness, supporting people who have the illness and efforts to eradicate it.

It begins with registration at 10 a.m., the walk starts at 11. The distance walked by participants is optional, according to organizers.

There also will be music, raffles and information available about Parkinson’s Disease.

“When someone you love is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, it can be frustrating to not know how to help,” Erika Forte, APDA Connecticut board president, said in a statement. “But then we see that frustration turn into motivation, determination, and purpose when people take part in the Optimism Walk.

“We hear from participants who feel proud to have made a difference, who have done their part by raising critical funds that will enable APDA to provide more programs and services right here in our local PD community,” Forte added.

The Optimism Walk will take place in compliance with all health and safety protocols in effect that day, organizers say.
