WESTPORT — More than one hundred people came to Compo Beach for a sunset Shabbat service Friday evening hosted by Temple Israel.
The service was a lively celebration featuring music, singing and fresh summer air.
“Jewish worship was originally not confined by walls,” noted Rabbi Michael Friedman. “It was done in the desert. It was done on the mountain top … so this is a return to the original worship of God in the midst of nature. This is God’s creation, so where better to worship.”
