WESTPORT — Construction planned Tuesday on Riverside Avenue — near the site of a gas line rupture a day earlier — again will affect Saugatuck area traffic flow, according to the Department of Public Works.

The work, part of the Riverside Avenue improvement project, includes demolition of the concrete roadway and reconstruction of the pavement, DPW Director Peter Ratkiewich said.

Tuesday morning, traffic on Riverside Avenue between Bridge Street and Saugatuck Avenue will be restricted to vehicles traveling north only.

All southbound traffic will be directed onto Saugatuck Avenue to Charles Street, the DPW announcement said.

During paving operations — expected on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 11-12 — the section of Riverside Avenue will be closed to all but local traffic.

All other vehicles will be detoured around Charles Street and Saugatuck Avenue.

Dates and times are approximate and subject to weather conditions, officials said.
