WESTPORT — Construction of a new replacement span for the Interstate 95 bridge over Saugatuck Avenue is now hard to miss.

Nine huge, green girders — the main structure of the new span — now tower over Saugatuck Avenue just south of the turnpike.

The span will be built where it is now atop vertical steel supports, and concrete poured for its deck. Sometime in October, one of the two bridges that carry I-95 over the road will be demolished, then the new span hoisted up and slid into place atop the new concrete footings.

The same process will take place on the other side of the bridge on a separate weekend.
