WESTPORT — Saturday hours at the town’s yard waste site on Bayberry Lane will be extended from Oct. 28 through the start of December.

Saturday hours at the drop-off facility, 180 Bayberry Lane, will be extended from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekly from Oct. 28 to Dec. 2.

The site, operated by the Department of Public Works, accepts up to six 30-gallon bags or containers full of leaves — at no charge — from Westporters with proof of residence. Dump tickets can be purchased at the DPW office in Town Hall.

The material will not be accepted in plastic bags.

Any van, pickup or tag-along trailer exceeding the six-bag limit will be charged $40 per load, according to DPW officials.

Any vehicle or trailer larger than a conventional pickup with a 4-by-8-foot bed will be charged $90 per ton.

Vehicles with a 9-foot body or vehicles changed to significantly enlarge their factory-design size will be charged $90 per ton estimated at two tons without weigh slip ($180).

The yard waste facility’s weekday schedule is 7 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. It is closed Sundays.
