WESTPORT — Replacing the Old Road bridge, at the Westport/Fairfield border, will change traffic patterns when work begins in about two weeks.
The bridge spanning Sasco Creek, built in 1965, will be closed to traffic when construction starts “on or about” April 1, according to an announcement by Town Engineer Keith Wilberg. The project is projected to last until approximately Nov. 30.
The bridge, which had its deck rehabilitated in 2002, has been labeled structurally deficient by the state.
Traffic will be detoured around the work site via the following route: Old Road to Bulkley Avenue North to Post Road East to Hulls Highway to Wakeman Lane, or the reverse, as necessary.
Signs alerting drivers to the detour will be posted.
Although the bridge will be closed, residents of Old Road and Grist Mill Lane will have access to their properties.
For questions about the bridge replacement project, call Wilberg at 203-341-1128.
