The office complex at 55 Greens Farms Road has been withdrawn by the owner as a potential site to erect a cell tower.

WESTPORT — Two weeks after a second potential site to erect a cell tower off Greens Farms Road emerged, that location is now off the radar, First Selectwoman Jennifer Tooker said Friday.

The owner of the office complex at 55 Greens Farms has withdrawn that property from consideration as a cell tower location, according to Tooker.

The other possible area site for a 124-foot-tall cell tower, proposed by Tarpon Towers/AT&T, remains a residential property at 92 Greens Farms Road.

Both sites were reviewed Monday by the Conservation Commission, acting in an advisory capacity, with commissioners expressing concerns about the impact a tower would have on wetlands at 55 Greens Farms Road.

There would be no wetlands impact at the 92 Greens Farms Road property, the commission was told.

The final decision on whether a cell tower can be erected on that site will be made by the Connecticut Siting Council.

The site at 92 Greens Farms Road is the same privately owned, 1.86-acre property where a plan to place a cell tower was advanced, but later withdrawn, in 2014. It generated strong opposition at the time.

Plans to put a cell tower on that property were revived late last summer, again encountering neighborhood opposition.

A neighbor who recently bought the home next to 92 Greens Farms Road told the commission Monday that it was “gut-wrenching” to learn about the cell tower proposal.

A public information session on the proposal is set, via Zoom, for Tuesday, Feb. 8. Click here for the online link.

“I urge neighbors of Greens Farms Road, and 92 Greens Farms Road in particular, to attend the Zoom public information session on Feb. 8, when there will be a full discussion of this cell tower proposal by representatives of Tarpon Towers,” Tooker said in a Friday statement.

“I continue to have concerns about locating a public utility on residential lots such as 92 Greens Farms Road,” she added. “Tuesday’s statutory public meeting will provide an opportunity for neighbors and the entire Westport community to communicate their opinions and gain insight on this important public issue.”
