WESTPORT — “There’s no such thing as a free lunch.”
For the last two weeks of 2021, however, the adage warning that you can’t expect something for nothing won’t be true in Westport.
At least as far as on-demand bus rides are concerned.
In the gift-giving spirit of the holidays, rides will be free from Dec. 20-31 on Wheels2U Westport, the door-to-railroad station shuttle buses run by the Westport Transit District.
Residents living in the Wheels2U Westport service area can use its ride-sharing app to book a ride between 5:45 and 9:45 a.m. from their homes to either the Saugatuck or Greens Farms railroad stations, and from 4 and 8 p.m. to schedule rides from either station back home.
Rides should be requested about 20 minutes before the desired pickup time.
And from Dec. 20 through Dec. 31, the usual $2 fare for a Wheels2U ride will be waived.
There is no bus service on Christmas Day, Dec. 25.
“We are pleased to be able to offer this gift to Westport residents and those who commute to work in Westport to thank them for their support of the Westport Transit District and Wheels2U,” Peter Gold, the Westport Transit District’s director, said in a statement announcing the holiday promotion.
“Wheels2U is convenient and easy to use,” he added. “Once you try it we’re sure you’ll like the service and want to use it again.”
