WESTPORT — A series of meetings on persistent flooding problems in neighborhoods across town is planned over the next three months.
The meetings, starting Thursday of this week, have been organized by First Selectwoman Jennifer Tooker in coordination with staff from the town’s Public Works, Planning and Zoning, and Conservation departments.
Flooding has been a long-term problem at certain flashpoints in town following severe downpours or coastal storms.
Each of the meetings will focus on a specific waterway, with an opportunity for residents to bring their experiences and concerns with that brook or stream to the attention of officials, according to Tooker’s announcement.
Information gathered at the meetings will be analyzed and sent to the Flood and Erosion Control Board for its consideration in determining flooding priorities.
That board has been reviewing flooding issues over the last several months. Read about some of those discussions here, here and here.
Tooker, in announcing the forums, said the goal is to help “address flood mitigation and stream management as it relates to the resiliency of our neighborhoods.
“Providing an opportunity for residents to learn more about these issues and to share how they are being affected is an important first step in the process of tackling this complex, long-term problem,” the first selectwoman added.
All of the meetings will take place in Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Ave., starting at 7 p.m. according to the following schedule:
