WESTPORT — Donations are sought to support the “Westport Warm-Up Fund,” the town-administered program providing assistance to local households for wintertime energy costs.
The fund allots financial aid to Westporters whose income might exceed the eligibility guidelines for state and federal energy-assistance programs, but who still need help to pay their utility bills.
All donations to the Warm-Up Fund are used to “support Westport’s most vulnerable citizens. One hundred percent of all donations are used to keep Westport residents warm this year,” Sibel Yorulmaz, finance manager for the town’s Department of Human Services, said in a statement. “Despite a wealth of resources in our small community, many neighbors quietly struggle to keep the lights on and their houses warm,” added Elaine Daignault, the department director.
