WESTPORT — A webinar about federal and state programs designed to save on energy costs will be hosted Thursday for constituents of U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D-4.

Residents of the 4th Congressional District, which includes Westport, are invited to join the online program at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, with representatives of the federal Department of Energy and the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Two bills adopted in the last session of Congress, which Himes supported, allocate $9 billion to help with energy savings by offering financial incentives and rebates for:

• Home appliance electrification and upgrades.

• Household retrofits to improve energy efficiency.

• Clean energy systems for homes.

• Insulation and related steps to assist weather-proofing homes.
