WESTPORT–Westport Country Playhouse announced that registration is underway for its children’s education program, Playhouse Playmakers, starting April 11. The seven-week program is for kids grades 6-8. Together as a group, students will create an original play, including writing, acting, rehearsing, and production, culminating with a performance on the Playhouse stage for an invited audience of family and friends. Memorization is not required.

Working collaboratively, students will learn the fundamentals of playwriting, storytelling, production, and some acting.

Playhouse Playmakers is directed by actor, playwright, and educator Evette Marie White. “Playhouse Playmakers nurtures imagination, confidence, and teamwork—while giving young artists the unforgettable experience of sharing their original voices in a professional theatrical setting,” White said in a release. “Playhouse Playmakers celebrates the students’ creativity and the collaborative journey of bringing a brand-new play to life.”

Playhouse Playmakers meets on seven Saturdays, April 11–May 30, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with the invited performance on Saturday, May 30, at 3 p.m., on the Playhouse stage. Fee is $575, including all seven sessions, technical rehearsal, materials, and four complimentary tickets to the performance. Additional tickets are $15 each. Scholarships are available, each covering the full cost of the classes and transportation reimbursement. Maximum class size is 15 students.
