WESTPORT — With heavy snowfall predicted overnight and most of Tuesday across southwestern Connecticut, Tuesday classes have been called off by Westport public schools.

The decision to cancel school was issued in a message from Supt. of Schools Thomas Scarice emailed about 5:45 p.m. Monday.

The forecast, according to the “Winter Storm Warning” posted for the region by the National Weather Service, calls for “heavy” snow through Tuesday evening, with accumulations of up to 10 inches. Wind gusts may be as high as 40 mph.

Scarice said that school offices also will be closed Tuesday, and other school-related activities will be postponed to a later date if possible.
