WESTPORT — Screenings for preschoolers facing early-learning challenges will be sponsored June 2 by Westport public schools to determine Title 1 eligibility.
The screenings, by appointment, will take place June 2 at Stepping Stones Preschool located at Coleytown Elementary School, 65 Easton Road.
Children eligible must be a resident of Westport and at least 3 years old by June 1. They also cannot be eligible for the 2023-24 kindergarten school year or 5 years old before Jan 1.
The screening will be used by officials to identify children considered “at risk” under federal and local Title 1 eligibility criteria.
Those qualified “may be eligible to participate in the Stepping Stones Preschool for the upcoming school year at no cost,” according to a school district statement.
The at-risk criteria, according to school officials, include having limited opportunities for a structured preschool curriculum prior to elementary school; limited English proficiency; developmental delays, and a family unable to afford a structured preschool.
Screenings will be conducted by Stepping Stones Preschool staff members. The team will asses a child’s concepts, language, motor, self help and social emotional skills, according to school officials.
To make an appointment, call Diane Marcinowski at 203-341-1712. For questions about Title 1 or Stepping Stones Preschool, call Michele Pollock at 203-341-1765.
