WESTPORT — The Yankee Doodle Fair came back to life on a sunny Saturday, after being rained out the day before.

The buttery, sweet, cinnamon and vanilla aroma of popcorn, cotton candy and waffle cones once again filled the midway of the carnival area.

Youngsters dashed about excitedly, waving inflatable swords and dragging stuffed toy trophies. Groups of teen girls braved swirling, gravity-challenging rides. Plenty of parents accompanied kids of all ages on rides, as did some some dedicated grandparents.

Sunday is the final day of this year’s fair at the Westport Woman’s Club, 44 Imperial Ave., and the next-door municipal parking lot from 1-5 p.m. It began Thursday.

Sunday is expected to be sunny again, with a high around 74 and gentle breeze, according to the National Weather Service.
