WESTPORT–The town’s Volunteer Emergency Medical Service (WVEMS) is accepting applicants for its Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course beginning October 5th, 2026.

Led by veteran WVEMS instructors, the EMT course provides students with essential life-saving skills, covering topics from basic bandaging, to childbirth, to multi-system trauma care. This hands-on, in-person class ensures students are fully equipped to respond effectively to emergencies as part of an EMS team in the future.

“We need motivated individuals looking to give back to our community in one of the most important ways imaginable: answering their call for help,” said WVEMS President Jaime Bairaktaris.

Students from diverse backgrounds, with or without prior experience, and from all over Fairfield County are invited to learn together how to save a life and one day volunteer alongside Westport’s steadfast team of EMS volunteers.

According to the release, “Volunteers answering the call” has been a Westport tradition since 1979 and will continue with thanks to those who sign up for this class.
