WESTPORT — Have you ever wondered what Westport cops do all day? Have you wanted to gain first-hand insights into training, criminal investigation techniques and crime-prevention methods?
A Citizens’ Police Academy, offered by the Police Department, will provide answers to those questions and more.
A new academy will be convened for eight sessions beginning Sept. 18. Participants also will have a chance to join a “ride-along” with an officer from the patrol division, take “Stop the Bleed” training and, as an option, learn how to handle weapons safely.
Classes will take place at 7 p.m. on most Thursdays through Nov. 20: Sept. 18 and 25, Oct. 9, 16, 23 and 30 and Nov. 13 and 20.
Any Westporter 21 or older is eligible for the Academy.
All interested parties must fill out the application, which is available below and at the Westport Police station.
Applications are due by Aug. 27; please mail or drop off at Police Headquarters or email to Captain Jillian Cabana at jcabana@westportct.gov.
