The 11th “Slice of Saugatuck” will take place Sept. 9 within in the area bracketed by Railroad Place, Riverside Avenue and Saugatuck Avenue.

WESTPORT — A slice of food. A slice of fun. A slice of local business flair. A slice of financial support for a good cause.

That’s a “Slice of Saugatuck,” which on Sept. 9 will celebrate the neighborhood for an 11th year, featuring participation by more than 40 area restaurants and businesses and organized by the Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce.

The event, which also features music and attractions for attendees of all ages, is set from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, unfolding in the streets bracketed by Railroad Place, Riverside Avenue and Saugatuck Avenue. (Rain date is Saturday, Sept. 30.)

Slice of Saugatuck tickets cost $15 for adults, $5 for children under 13 years old and youngsters under 5 will be admitted free. Tickets will be sold only at the event Sept. 9, beginning at 1:50 p.m. before activities get underway.

In addition to cuisine served up by area eateries and merchandising specials offered by businesses, the Slice will feature music performed at seven venues around the festival area. Performers will include Otis and the Hurricanes, Silver Steel, Mill River Band, the Howling Barncats, Elana Zarabi and Accidental Breakdown.

For adult attendees, there will be two beer and wine gardens at Bridge Square and Railroad Place. Many restaurants will also offer specialty drinks inside their premises.

Attractions for the younger crowd will include bouncy houses, a balloon bender and a face painter.

As with previous Slice of Saugatuck events, proceeds will be donated to the Gillespie Center food pantry operated by Homes with Hope. To date, more than $44,000 has been donated to the food pantry from previous festivals, according to the chamber of commerce.

““We’re firing on all cylinders this year with a great event for the whole community,” Matthew Mandell, the chamber’s executive director, said in a publicity statement. “What still amazes me, if even after so many years, people keep telling me this is the favorite event in town …

“Where else can you just walk the streets with friends and neighbors and enjoy what an entire neighborhood has to offer?”
