WESTPORT — Learn to see — and appreciate — the trees through the forest, so to speak, at “Oaktoberfest” on Oct. 4 at Wakeman Town Farm.

A panel of arbor experts, in conjunction with the town’s Tree Board, will discuss “all the good trees do in our yards and how to return the favor in caring for them,” according to Oaktoberfest organizers.

In keeping with the celebratory spirit, attendees will be given a free sapling to take home.

The program gets underway at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4., at the farm, 134 Cross Highway. Tickets cost $10; to register for the event, click here.

Panelists offering advice on tree care will include:

  • Mary Ellen Lemay, landowner engagement director, Aspetuck Land Trust.
  • Danica Doroski, urban forestry coordinator, state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
  • Doug Williams, arborist, Bartlett Tree Experts.
  • Westport Tree Board members.
  • Note: Oaktoberfest will be an in-person, indoor event, according to a press release. Attendees will be required to wear masks and should bring their own. Masks will not be provided.
