An Easter egg hunt, a Mardi Gras meal and soil prep for the growing season are among the upcoming programs at Wakeman Town Farm.

WESTPORT — Spring, although the iron grip of frigid weather makes it hard to imagine, is only a month away.

And things are already sprouting at Wakeman Town Farm, with a bountiful array of activities planned to welcome the seasonal shift.

They include:

  • “Laissez les bons temps rouler,” and roll up for a March 4 Mardi Gras cooking class with chef Raquel Rivera. The menu features fare infused with traditional New Orleans flair, including shrimp with grits and Cajun gumbo with rice. It’s a BYOB event, so bring a favorite libation to wash down the meal. It takes place at 7 p.m. Register by clicking here.
  • Healthy soil makes for healthy gardens — and heathy harvests of vegetables, herbs and flowers. It all starts with the soil, though, and Duncan Himmelman, educational horticulturist and advisor for Blau House & Gardens, will lead a March 10 program on how to prep soil into top shape for the growing season. It is set for 7:30 p.m. Register by clicking here.
  • Hop on over to the farm at 10:30 a.m. April 19, with little ones bearing baskets, for the annual “Eggstravaganza” egg hunt, of the more popular seasonal attractions. There’ll be plenty of bunny business. Registration is already open; click here to sign up.
