WESTPORT — Hanukkah menorah-lighting ceremonies next week will brighten the community’s holiday season.

Two events marking observance of the Festival of Lights, which runs Dec. 7-15, will take place Monday, Dec. 11. Both are open to the public.

The ceremonial lighting of a large menorah, at the downtown corner of Main Street and Post Road East, is scheduled for 5 p.m. Monday. Several local Jewish congregations traditionally participate in the event, planned in collaboration with the Westport Downtown Association.

A second menorah lighting, sponsored by the Schneerson Center for Jewish Life of Connecticut, will take place at 7 p.m. Monday at the Compo Acres shopping center at 400 Post Road East (site of Trader Joe’s and Wells Fargo). The ceremony will include music and distribution of cookies, gelt and dreidels. For information, call 203-635-4118.
