WESTPORT — More than $1,000 was raised by the Longshore Ladies 9-Holers when the group tackled the bogeyman of hunger at its recent annual charity event.

Club members who turned out for the Sept. 29 event at Longshore Golf Course not only donated more than $1,125, but also collected four grocery carts of groceries to fight food insecurity.

The donations benefited the food closet run by the Westport Woman’s Club in collaboration with the town’s Department of Human Services.
