WESTPORT — Gremlins and ghosts. Princesses and pirates. Superheroes and Super Mario Brothers. Demons and dinosaurs.

Barbie, for sure. And maybe Ken.

All those colorful characters, and many more, are expected to descend on downtown Oct. 25 for the annual Children’s Halloween Parade.

The event, starting at Main Street and Post Road East, starts at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25. It is organized by the town’s Parks and Recreation Department, the Westport Downtown Association and the Westport Police Athletic League.

The Halloween-themed march is open to all local children, particularly those 8 years old and younger, according to sponsors.

Youngsters, trick-or-treating at businesses along the way, will proceed up Main Street to Avery Place, and turn onto Myrtle Avenue to Town Hall and Veterans Green. At the green about 4 p.m., there will be entertainment, refreshments and other treats.

Main Street will be closed to traffic and parking from 2 to 4 p.m. to make way for the festivities.

In case of rain, the Halloween parade and party will take place at the same time the next day, Thursday, Oct. 26.
