WESTPORT — Beit Chaverim Synagogue of Westport/Norwalk held a “Music Under the Stars” fundraiser Sunday evening as part of its ongoing efforts to see its new synagogue completed.

Monica and Jeff Siskind opened their Morningside Drive South home for the sold-out event, which was capped at 100 attendees and held outside.

The event, which included a silent auction, food and drink, also featured the jazz music of Portal, with special appearances by singer Melissa Newman and clarinetist Rabbi Greg Wall, a.k.a. the Jazz Rabbi.

Beit Chaverim, which means “House of Friends,” began in 1988 as a modern Orthodox synagogue where everyone is welcomed, regardless of background or level of observance.

While this event brought the congregation closer to realizing its dream of a new home, more will still be needed to make the dream come to fruition.
