WESTPORT — The annual “Great Duck Race,” sponsored by the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club, is expected to draw a flock to cheer on a flotilla of rubber duckies competing June 29 on Jesup Green.
The event, which raises money for club charities, gets underway with a “Fun Faire” of games, other activities and food, at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29, on the downtown green. There is no admission fee.
The flock of nearly 4,000 yellow rubber ducks hits the race course at 1 p.m.
The ducks — each assigned a number — will be dropped onto a 160-foot-long sluice and then swim, splash, waddle and float down the giant slide toward the finish line.
Cash prizes are awarded to people who hold tickets assigned to the numbers of winning ducks. Tickets cost $20 each, and can be purchased online by clicking here, or from Sunrise Rotary members.
The first 10 ducks to cross the finish line win money for their ticket holders — $5,000 for first place, $1,000 for second place and $500 for each of the next eight finishers.
The Great Duck Race is the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club’s largest annual fundraiser, helping to support its local and international charities.
