WESTPORT — “A Night for the Books,” a fundraiser supporting the statewide early literacy initiatives of Read to Grow, will take place May 2 at the Westport Library.

The event, featuring presentation of the nonprofit’s Literacy Champions Awards, is set for 6 p.m. Thursday. May 2, at the library, 20 Jesup Road.

There also will be food and drinks inspired by children’s picture books, according to event organizers, as well as an auction.

The mission of Read to Grow is “to promote language skills and literacy for children, beginning at birth, and to support parents as their babies’ first teachers,” according to the group’s website.

Over more than 20 years, the group has donated more than 2.3 million books through various programs around the state, serving more than 1.4 million people during that time.
