The Westport Downtown Association is sponsoring a display of holiday trees to promote 12 local nonprofits.

WESTPORT — The day after Thanksgiving may be widely known as the “Black Friday” start of the Christmas shopping rush, but downtown Westport will be anything but dark thanks to dazzling decor on a dozen trees bedecked for the holiday season.

Each tree features a different theme specifically designed to reflect the mission of a local nonprofit organization.

The displays will be illuminated Friday evening, Nov. 26.

Designed by professionals, the trees are placed around the downtown area, courtesy of the Westport Downtown Association.

The trees are designed both to promote a festive spirit during the holidays, and to underscore the need to support the 12 organizations’ work during the season of giving, according to organizers of the project.

A detailed list of the 12 organizations, how to donate to each group, and a guide to where each of their trees is located can be found here on the Westport Downtown Association website.

Donations to help the association fund the tree-decoration project can be made at its gofundme page.
