WESTPORT — While debate rages over the fate of trees on Jesup Green, which may be felled to make way for a parking lot, the town’s Tree Board is doing its bit to bolster tree growth around town by giving away saplings April 26.

The Arbor Day give-away program will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, April 26, at the parking lot behind Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Ave.

Saplings will include Red Buds, Flowering Dogwoods and Common Horse Chestnuts.

The program also will include advice about planting techniques and ways to ensure trees’ health. Tree Warden Ben Sykas will be on hand to answer questions.
