WESTPORT — With crowds expected to flock downtown this weekend for the annual “Great Duck Race” on Jesup Green and “Sidewalk Sale Days” throughout the central business district, police have issued parking and traffic advisories.

The Great Duck Race, sponsored by the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club, will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29, on the downtown green.

The Sidewalk Sale Days, organized by the Westport Downtown Association, are planned during regular business hours Friday, June 28, through Sunday, June 30, along Main and Elm streets, Post Road, Church Lane and Riverside Avenue, as well as in Sconset Square and Playhouse Square.

To accommodate the duck race, the Taylor parking lot abutting Jesup Green will be closed from Friday evening until Saturday evening.

In addition to the Rotary’s event, heavier-than-usual pedestrian traffic and demand for available parking is expected because of the influx of shoppers patronizing the sidewalk sales.

As a result, police advise drivers to proceed with caution through downtown and to expect congestion.
