The 43rd Minute Man Race, sponsored by the Westport Young Woman’s League, took place Saturday at Compo Beach.

WESTPORT — The steady stride of experience bested the burst of youthful vigor as hundreds of runners put their fleetest feet forward in the 43rd Minute Man Race, sponsored by the Westport Young Woman’s League Saturday at Compo Beach.

Runners over 40 years old finished first in both the 5K and 10K divisions of the race, which attracted a combined field of more than 600 competitors.

The event also featured a 5K walk and Kids Fun Run, which attracted hundreds more participants.

The Minute Man Race and related events helped the WYWL raise $90,000 for local charitable organizations in 2020, according to the club, adding to a total of more than $4.3 million in grants distributed since its founding in 1956.

The first runner to cross the finish line in this year’s 10K race was Tim Collins, 48, with a time of 35:05:00.

Rounding out the top-10 finishers in the field of 260 runners were, in order: Justin Kousky, 42; Brett Abbott, 25; Timothy Moylan, 40; Ryan Foley, 32; Evan Nadel, 50; Nick Logan, 41; Sam Zwick-Lavinsky, only 14 years old; Austin Martin, 41, and Rich Shoup, 48.

In the 5K division that attracted 350 competitors, Jonathan Lee, 41, finished first with a time of 16:40.

The other runners among the top 10, in order of finish, were: Nicholas DeFelice, 38; Matthew Fleming, 18; David Sorensen, 36; Trevor Genthe, 14; David Gordon, 42; James Sandison, 58; Hank Berkowitz, 60; Samuel Rossoni, 15, and Joseph Nuara, 36.
