WESTPORT–After a little more than four years at 97 Main Street, the Westport location of the women’s clothing / lifestyle chain Sundance is slated to close.
The chain was founded by Robert Redford, acclaimed actor, director, producer and founder of the Sundance Film Festival.
Celebrating what their website calls “the lifestyle of the American West,” the Sundance catalog began in the 1990’s, targeting women seeking a casual bohemian look. The brick and mortar stores grew out of the catalog. There are 16 Sundance stores nationwide.
The store is currently “in liquidation,” according to the store manager, who did not want to be quoted by name.
A call into the regional Sundance office has not been returned; more details may be forthcoming.

Sad to see another retailer who put millions into the landlords building go out.
But I’m not surprised.
They certainly did not find parking to be workable.
They have an amazing product.
But when staff and the business bend over backwards to bring a great product to this town, through massive investment, and the business environment is not friendly..
they fail.
How unfortunate..
Tiffany’s same thing..
And rumour has it there is more to come.
When the town screws over the businesses this is the outcome.
