WESTPORT — With St. Patrick’s Day on the way tomorrow, business was busy Wednesday morning at Peggy’s Cottage at 1773 Post Road East, across from Stop & Shop.

“We sell Irish foods and gifts,” said Darren Kirby, whose mom, Peggy — a native of Tipperary in Ireland — opened the store about four years ago.

He said that while Easter is traditionally the biggest shopping holiday of the year at the store — which features a range of Irish items, including hand-knit sweaters, caps, chocolate, toys, and much more — the imminent Irish holiday has customers dropping in to get their goods.

“It’s got all my favorite things in here that I haven’t been able to have for years, so it’s an absolute pleasure,” said Suzie Joseph of Westport, who grew up in the United Kingdom.

While the bacon she’s able to get at Peggy’s is a favorite pick, there are many other items she and her family love, including chips, candies and treats unique to Ireland.

“It literally warms my heart walking in here,” she said.
