WESTPORT — Construction for a water main “improvement project” on Prospect Road is scheduled to begin Oct. 17 and continue through the end of the year, according to Aquarion Water Co.

The project, affecting approximately 2,940 feet of the water main, is designed “to improve Aquarion’s water distribution system and to ensure the highest quality water,” the water company said in a statement.

Traffic delays and detours around the construction zone can be expected during scheduled working hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Aquarion said. Contractor for the project is Paganelli Construction Corp. of Windsor Locks.

After completion of the construction work, final paving is expected to be scheduled next spring.
