WESTPORT — Construction continues apace at 1595 Post Road East, where the Delamar Westport hotel is slated to open later this year on the former longtime site of the Westport Inn.

In addition to 86 rooms — reduced from 117 rooms at the Westport Inn, which closed in 2021 — the new hotel will have a full-service restaurant, a bar with outdoor dining, meeting areas, private function rooms, a fitness facility and an indoor pool with a retractable roof, according to the Delamar website.

The project on the 3.8-acre property won final approval from the Planning and Zoning Commission in February 2023.

The work involves building a new structure where the front of the old inn once stood, while retaining and remodeling the rear section of the complex.

The Delamar Westport, when complete, will be the sixth hotel in the luxury brand’s portfolio, which includes the nearby Delamar Southport and a new hostelry in Mystic, also scheduled to open this year.
