Mitchells stores has posted this announcement about their family business’s acquisition of the Stanley Korshak store in Dallas from the Brock family.

WESTPORT — Mitchells, the nearly seven-decade-old Westport-based clothing and accessories retailer, has expanded its national collection of upscale brands with the addition of Stanley Korshak of Dallas, Texas.

Stanley Korshak “shares our family’s vision to bringing customers the most exquisite luxury fashions in the world with unequaled personalized service,” Bob Mitchell and Russ Mitchell, co-CEOs of Mitchell Stores, said in a statement announcing the acquisition Tuesday.

Stanley Korshak operates a 32,000-square-foot store in Dallas, as well as a full-service bridal salon.

It joins the Mitchells collection of nine specialty stores that includes Richards in Greenwich, Wilkes Bashford in California and Marios in the Pacific Northwest.

The Mitchell family has known the Brock family, owners of Stanley Korshak, for more than 20 years, according to the announcement. Chris Mitchell, from the family’s third generation involved in the business, will be spending half his time in Dallas working with Crawford Brock to manage the ownership transition.

With full integration of Stanley Korshak into the Mitchells group of stores expected by late spring, customers at all nine locations will be able to shop a larger selection of brands and products, the Mitchells said.

Mitchells was founded in 1958 by Ed and Norma  Mitchell, opening as a men’s clothing shop in an 800-square-foot former plumbing supply store.

The store, then known as “Ed Mitchells,” was moved in 1979 to its current location at 670 Post Road East. It was expanded in 1993 to include the business’s corporate offices and the name was changed to “Mitchells.”

A second generation, Bill and Jack Mitchell, author of “Hug Your Customer,” expanded the business, adding women’s clothing and jewelry to the mix.

In 1995, a second store, Richards in Greenwich, was added, and was joined in 2015 by Marshs in Huntington, N.Y., which now carries the Mitchells name.

In December 2009, Mitchells acquired the Wilkes Bashford stores in San Francisco and Palo Alto, Calif. And in October 2015, Mitchells acquired Marios, which now has three stores in Seattle, Wash., and Portland and Bridgeport, Ore.

Today, Mitchells stores are run by the third and fourth generations of the Mitchell family, and the business is the largest multi-brand specialty store group in the nation, according to the announcement.
