WESTPORT — Firefighters’ quick response to a small roof fire at a Post Road West shopping center Monday afternoon prevented major damage, according to fire officials’ report.
The incident, reported at 2:29 p.m., involved smoldering roof materials at the multi-shop complex — not specified in the report — where work took place earlier in the day, the report says. Occupants, alerted by smoke detectors, left the complex safely.
Engines 4 and 2, Truck 1 and the shift commander initially were sent to the scene, later joined by Engine 6.
A burning odor and light smoke were reported by firefighters first on the scene. Firefighters from Truck 1, moving to the roof, found smoke coming from a roof scuttle hatch. Engines 4 and 2 crews stretched a hose line, and checked each of the businesses in the mall for smoke and fire.
Firefighters from Truck 1, assisted by Engine 6, found fire smoldering in roofing materials near the scuttle, and quickly extinguished the blaze.
A representative of the Fire Marshal’s Office was also on scene, and the cause was attributed to roof repair work earlier Monday, according to the fire report.

This is kind of pointless without an address. So a building caught fire in Westport? Maybe some more details?
