WESTPORT — Michael Brennecke has been selected as the guest artist for March at the Westport Book Shop.
Four recent paintings by Brennecke will be on exhibit through the end of the month during regular business hours at the store, 23 Jesup Road.
Brennecke, a lifelong Westport resident, primarily focuses on abstract art, in oils or watercolors, according to publicity for the exhibit.
Starting with “a non-representational drawing,” Brennecke employs “random, intuitive movement and accident to create a composition without any preconceived image,” the book shop’s press release states.
“Then, in the tradition of Rorschach, through the addition of color and texture, he develops and emphasizes the evocative parts of the image that draw his attention.”
The four paintings on display include: “Night Lights,” an homage to Van Gogh’s “Starry Night Over the Rhone;” “Paradise,” referencing the California town destroyed by the Camp fire; “Monteverde,” evocative of Costa Rican rainforests, and “Backside,” which “the artist says he has no clear idea about,” according to the book shop.
Brennecke attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and earned a BFA at Tufts University. He is a member of the Silvermine Guild of Artists, the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, the Rowayton Arts Center and the Artists Collective of Westport.
