WESTPORT–LaSource, a new store especially for women, opened Friday at 7 Church Lane, in the space formerly occupied by Fig Linen Home. LaSource is a lingerie shop, but it’s more, according to owner Jessica Johnson. In addition to lingerie, the store offers sleepwear, resort wear, gifts for women and more.
The Westport shop is her third shop, Johnson said. She opened the first LaSource in Darien two years ago, and a second in New Canaan last year.
She grew up in the ballet world, Johnson said, “which gives you an appreciation for the female body,” and she was close to her grandmother, mother and aunt. She sees her stores as “a little bit of homage” to the women in her life, and to all women.
“Our intent is to honor women in the areas of love, and life. … As a woman in my 40s, I feel we’re overlooked a lot,” she said.
For example, research shows that 80 percent of women wear the wrong size bra. “Ladies, please don’t buy your bras online,” Johnson said. Many women buy either the wrong size or wrong shape for their body, she said. At LaSource, the staff are experts in helping customers find the right size lingerie.
Women often come to her shop just before going on vacation to get a fresh pajama set or new lingerie. “We want you to have beautiful things,” Johnson said.
She chose Westport to open the new shop because she has worked in town for several years as a commercial real estate broker for Origin Realty Advisors. “I just love the community here. It has amazing energy and character,” she said. “I find it appealing as a shopper, and hopefully will as a business owner.”
