WESTPORT — While Friday the 13th traditionally bodes ill for the superstitious, those who like the chill of Halloween season story-telling are in luck Oct. 13 at the Westport Library.

“Nightfall on the Nutmeg State,” a set of original pieces written by the Fireside Mystery Theatre for the Westport Library, will be performed at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, in the library, 20 Jesup Road.

The $20 tickets include a cocktail crafted for the program as well as light refreshments. To purchase tickets online, click here.

The event is planned by library officials as a prelude to the annual “StoryFest” literary festival, organized at the library Oct. 20-22. For a complete list of programs planned over the course of that three-day event, click here.

Fireside Mystery Theatre actors will perform the playlets,  in full costume, standing in front of microphones with scripts in hand and accompanied by music — an ode to the era of live radio drama, according to publicity for the program. The performances will be recorded and later featured on the troupe’s podcast.

“Nightfall on the Nutmeg State” includes four different stories drawn from “strange sights, sounds and stories specially sourced from Connecticut’s darkest local myths, mysteries and legends,” according to the performing group.

“We relish in thrilling and chilling our audiences wherever we go,” Ali Silva, a Fireside Mystery Theatre presenter and actor, said in a publicity release.

“But we especially look forward to this privilege of hand-delivering to the fine folk of Connecticut a lovingly crafted evening of our peculiar brand of dark and delightful entertainment.”
