WESTPORT — A Connecticut artist will sign copies of her new children’s alphabet-themed book July 29 at Sorelle Gallery.

Laerta Premto, whose book, “ABC Animal Alphabet” was published in April, will meet with reception attendees to discuss her work and sign copies of the book from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at the gallery, 19 Church Lane.

Paintings by Premto also will be on view during the reception, which is free and open to the public.

“ABC Animal Alphabet” features “a watercolor illustration and fun fact corresponding to each letter of the alphabet, ‘taking young readers on an exciting journey through the animal kingdom,’ ” according to a publicity release.

Premto’s work “is consistently whimsical and joyful — the perfect combination for a children’s book,” Sandy Pelletier, the gallery owner, said in the release.

Premto, a watercolor artist who paints a variety of subjects, often focuses on animals and architecture inspired by her travels. As a child, she immigrated to the United States from Albania with her family. “The challenges and struggles of learning a new culture and language only fueled her curiosity and desire to see more of the world,” according to publicity for the event.

Premto graduated with a BFA from University of Hartford and earned a master’s degree at Central Connecticut State University.
