Suspense, intrigue, murder, and a touch of dark humor take the stage when Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play opens the Westport Community Theatre’s 69th season on Sept. 18.

Adapted for the stage by playwright Joe Landry, Vintage Hitchcock brings to life three early thrillers by the master of suspense, director Alfred Hitchcock. The theater will present The Lodger, Sabotage and The 39 Steps in the style of a 1940s radio broadcast. A mysterious killer, an explosion and a train chase unfold through a company of actors, sound effects, and an original musical score.

Directed by Richard Mancini, and stage managed by Patricia A. Berg, Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play features Joan Barere, John Bachelder, Roger Dykeman, Linda Gilmore, Ann Kinner, Sam Mink and Tom Rushen in multiple roles.

Landry, the playwright, grew up in Fairfield, where an early job in the local library’s film department helped spark his fascination with classic movies, including the early films of Alfred Hitchcock. Theatre was another passion, and Westport Country Playhouse was among the theatres he came to call home. In 1995, he founded Second Guess Theatre Company, which went on to produce more than two dozen new plays, adaptations, and revivals. For this WCT production, Joe has been revisiting and refining the Vintage Hitchcock script, for which he has made a number of updates specifically for this production.
