WESTPORT–As reported earlier, the Town experienced significant flash flooding this morning.

The state’s midday update reported that the Norwalk-to-Westport area was among the hardest hit in Connecticut, receiving six to seven inches of rain after 7 a.m., with rainfall rates reaching three to four inches per hour.

Westport emergency responders conducted 13 rescues of people trapped in vehicles by floodwaters. The Town’s Fire, Police, EMS, Public Works, and dispatch teams continue responding to calls throughout Westport. Town departments are also coordinating with Eversource to secure or disconnect utilities where necessary and make affected properties safe.

The Town appreciates the assistance and support of its regional and state partners. Residents should continue to avoid flooded roads, never drive around barricades, and give emergency crews room to work. Even as the rain subsides, standing water and other hazards may remain.
