WESTPORT–Mike Camacho and the Nutmeg Legacy Quartet will perform at VFW Post 399 this Thursday at VFW Post 399, 465 Riverside Ave., Westport.
The show is part of the Jazz at the Post series, which offers a new concert each Thursday, presented by the Jazz Society of Fairfield County with the VFW Post.
This week’s shows features Camacho, a New York City-based drummer and south Norwalk native, with Connecticut-based bassist Phil Bowler, Steve Einorson on piano, Josh Bruneau on trumpet and Nathan Bellot on saxophone.
“Mike Camacho is an in-demand drummer in New York City,” said an announcement from Jazz Society of Fairfield County. “The South Norwalk native has been playing drums since he was 10 years old, when he began lessons with his mentor and local drum teacher John Cutrone.”
Camacho performs “at some of the premier jazz venues of the world, including Dizzy’s, Smalls, Cellar Dog, Mezzrow, Smoke, Ornithology, the Jazz Forum, the Newport Jazz Festival and has been featured on WBGO Jazz radio,” the society said.
Bowler is a “Connecticut-born and bred bass master” who “emerged from the University of Hartford and went on to become one of the most respected and versatile bassists on the East Coast jazz scene,” the society said. “Over the years, he has traveled around the world, powering bands led by legends including Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Horace Silver, Hugh Masekela, Wynton Marsalis, Max Roach, Slide Hampton, Jon Faddis, Donald Harrison, Terence Blanchard, Benny Golson, Jackie McLean, and the Count Basie Orchestra.”
Dinner by Chef Derek Furino will be served at 7 p.m. The price is $25 and spots can be reserved here or by calling 475-298-5079.
Musical sets start at at 7:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. The cover charge is $20 (or $15 for students and veterans) or $10 for the late show.
