“Exposed,” a new book by Michael Friedman, features photographs of rock musicians from the 1960s and ’70s. Friedman will talk about the book and his career in the music business April 22 at the Westport Library.

WESTPORT — Photos of legendary rock performers in the 1960s and ’70s — many never seen previously — are showcased in music producer and manager Michael Friedman’s new book, “Exposed” — and the focus of an April 22 program at the Westport Library.

Friedman will discuss his photographs and career, followed by a live performance of classic music from that era, in a program set for 7 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the library, 20 Jesup Road.

Friedman, who began working in the music business in the mid-’60s, came in contact with a range of rising musicians who became icons in the field. They include: Janis Joplin, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, the Band, Levon Helm, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Johnny Winter, Gordon Lightfoot and Rita Coolidge.

Friedman, also an avid photographer, recorded images of these musicians over the years, although the negatives for many of the photos were lost — until recently. “Exposed” features 200 of those photos, as well stories about his subjects.

The program will feature Friedman discussing the book and his career with WPLR’s Mike Lapitino and local musician Roger Kaufman.

Following the discussion, music from that era in rock will be performed by Kaufman’s band, Old School Revue, with guests drummer Chris Parker (who played with Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Todd Rundgren), bassist Stu Woods (Dylan, Rundgren and Jim Croce) and Staples High School graduate Drew Angus.

Signed copies of Friedman’s book, along with prints, will be available for purchase.
