WESTPORT – High school artists interested in having their work showcased in a museum will have a little more time to put the final touches on their pieces after MoCA\CT extended its deadline for submissions.
The deadline was extended from Jan. 30 to Feb. 13. MoCA\CT also announced that the exhibition itself has been lengthened and will run through June 7 rather than April 26.
The 11th annual high school exhibition, The Sound of Us: Youth Culture Now, features a theme coinciding with the Westport Public Art Collection’s exhibition Art, Jazz + the Blues, which explores the effects of contemporary music on youth culture. Students must select a song released between 2020 and the present and create a piece of art showing its effect on youth culture “through fashion, social interactions, speech, education, political alertness and activism, and life in general.”
An application portal with submission guidelines and information on art drop-off and pickup times is available here. A $10 entry fee is also required, although scholarships are available to waive this cost.
The exhibition will have an opening reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 26 at MoCA\CT.
