WESTPORT — Members of the Westport Arts Advisory Committee gave their thanks to First Selectman Jim Marpe Tuesday afternoon for eight years of support during his tenure.
WAAC presented him with a giclee print by Westport artist Hardie Gramatky, as well as a photo collage featuring a poem by Westport’s Poet Laureate Diane Lowman, reading: “With deep gratitude / Caped crusader for the arts / Our fearless leader.”
Marpe’s second and final term will come to an end next week.

We are thrilled that the Arts Advisory Council gave Jim Marpe a giclée of my dad’s watercolor “Turkey Hill Sleigh Ride, (Westport)” painted around 1955 from the back of our home at 60 Roseville Road. Back then (before all the trees grew so tall) one could see the Greens Farms Congregational church, a house on Long Lots that Deej and Deborah Webb think is their antique home at #35, and the actual top of South Turkey Hill Road, which I think is the highest spot in Westport. Enjoy your well-earned retirement, Jim! Love from Kendall & Linda Gramatky Smith
