
WESTPORT — An adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice,” Jane Austen’s classic account of manners and mating in Regency-era England, will be staged starting this weekend by Westport Community Theatre.
The dramatization of what is Austen’s best-known work, adapted by Jon Jory, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Jan. 31-Feb. 1, Feb. 7-8 and Feb. 14-15, as well as 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, and at 2 p.m. Sundays, Feb. 2, 9 and 16.

The narrative focuses on Elizabeth Bennet, an independent-minded young woman and one of five sisters for whom their mother is determined to find husbands.
The story, which has inspired a variety of film and book adaptations, is noted for its wry observations on social conventions, self-discovery and love.
