WESTPORT — Watercolor paintings, which illustrate a new children’s book, are featured in the September artist-of-the-month exhibit at the Westport Book Shop.

Paintings by Rebecca Ross — illustrating “In the Beginning: A Love Story,” by Westport author Michael Hendricks — will be on display through Sept. 30 at the book shop, 23 Jesup Road.

A reception for the art show, with book signing, will take place at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, in the shop. To register to attend, call 203-349-5141 or email to bookshop@westportbooksaleventures.org.

The book features 14 watercolor illustrations by Ross. “The best part of this project is looking back on the hard work and the progress I made as a painter and illustrator,” Ross said in the shop’s publicity release for the exhibit.

It is the first children’s book collaboration between Ross and Hendricks, who previously has published two mystery novels.

Ross holds a degree in illustration from Pratt Institute, and uses skills in drawing, painting and printmaking to produce her art.
