WESTPORT — A stinging comedy, “As Bees in Honey Drown,” is the next presentation in the “Script in Hand” play-reading series at the Westport Country Playhouse.

The performance will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at the theater, 25 Powers Court.

Tickets cost $25, and can be purchased online here.

“As Bees in Honey Drown,” written by Douglas Carter Beane, focuses on a struggling, gay writer who is hired to write a screenplay based on the life of a mysterious woman, “a self-described promoter of up-and-coming artists, according to a playhouse publicity release, and “is drawn into a whirlwind adventure, hobnobbing among the ’90s New York art scene.”

The play was written Douglas Carter Beane, and the Script in Hand presentation is directed by Mark Shanahan.

Beane’s play is “a terrific, laugh-out-loud comedy,” said Shanahan, but also explores the question, “At what price fame?”

Leading the cast are Steve Pacek and Nina Hellman.
